November is National Adoption Month and National thankfulness Month:) I wanted to share our story of what put me on my road to our least of these ministry. I was a single outspoken teacher a few years ago:) I returned to my hometown to teach in the newly combined school system. There wasn't enough room for all the high school students in one school. The freshmen from the combined system were all sent to one school together. I was one of the science teachers. I started a service club to help unite the kids and give the freshmen a club. We decided to host a Christmas party for children in foster care and to provide Christmas for several needy families. I was also blessed to have an awesome young man in my homeroom who lived in a foster home at the rock ranch. We meet at Kmart one Saturday morning to shop for our Christmas families. Truitt Cathy happened to be at the Rock and dropped my student off at Kmart. He thanked me for encouraging my students to help meet the needs of others and gave me money to shop. I was blown a away. Having grown up a poor student myself, I assumed that wealthy people were concerned with themselves and having the finer things in life. At that point, I decided that if I were blessed with money I would use it to help children. I spent some time the following months volunteering at the Rock Ranch and knew my life would include foster/orphan ministry. I have never spoken to Mr. Cathy again, but his simple random act of kindness changed my direction in life and allowed me to be directly involved with helping hundreds of children. Amazing what $50 can do:) Love ya and be thankful for your Hero and I challenge you to be a Hero for a fatherless child.
